Touch excellence

Maserati Gran Cabrio: Italy designAt Maserati, the GranCabrio project called for the perfect alchemy of innovation and tradition. This magical mix is especially expressed in the colours, the combination of colour tones and the materials chosen to enhance the interior of Trident’s new convertible. For Maserati, the GranCabrio’s debut coincided with the opening of a new avenue in terms of styling: a droptop car where the cabin is a natural extension of the exterior shapes and reflections. This cabrio allows the car’s fantastic interior to be shown off to the full.

First and foremost, the GranCabrio was the perfect occasion to update the range of Maserati colours”, stated the person responsible for designing the car’s interior, Tiziana Mauri. “This was thanks to the introduction of Pearl Beige for the seat leather, dashboard trim and carpets. It is a light tone with warm, reddish hues. This tint allowed us to create a clear distinction between the exterior and interior but also meant that we could create a sophisticated and fresh feel to the cabin. You could describe the interior as now being less dull as the darker colours have also been given a new shade with Blu Profondità replacing Blu Navy”.

One crucial factor in getting the interior look right was the choice of materials to combine with the leather finishes. This led to the choice of two new woods: Moonwood and Carbalho.
The first is light with a horizontal grain that complements the classic mahogany”, continued Tiziana Mauri.
Managing to produce it for use on a cabriolet was not easy as the wood has to meet a series of technical requirements that are not called for on a closed top car. It was tough but we pulled it off. Carbalho, on the other, plays between light and dark and has darker patches on a very light background. These small details result in a product that is even more Italian in its perfection”.
